Story Board Series, 2014 41 cm high by 52 cm wide Wood by Larry Westlake
Signs and symbols are simplified representations of human experience created specially to convey complex information. Early attempts at writing were iconomatic, which was the intermediary between picture writing and phonetic writing. The ceramic object as symbol reads as a form of language. Using adapted "earth" symbols this personal vocabulary is addressing a universal constant; our relation to the earth and it's future. The ceramic object/symbols belong to a language family and in a linear presentation they complete the concept of "story"; the recycled repurposed boat/test-board continues the story board concept.
