ITERATION
Laurie Rolland, RCA

ARTISTS STATEMENT

My practice involves the making of individual pieces within ever-evolving Series, and new ideas develop naturally from the working process itself. The work in this exhibition (and the portents surrounding each), is all interconnected through a deep reverence for the natural world. This is combined with an interest in ancient earth-based religions, which also informs these ideas, and helps to unite the natural and cultural elements.

There is a symbolic discourse occurring throughout these diverse clusters.

Iteration means to "utter or do again". Part of the process of working with clay is doing it again and again to make it right, to refine it, to figure out the puzzle of just how to do it.

Doing it again also refers to some parts of this body of work being shown once more, added to, reworked, and reconfigured; being seen and heard again.
